He was getting a class break here after finishing a well-beaten 13th in the Nov. 2 GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. The chestnut colt raced along the rail and was part of a four-way second flight chasing the early lead. He powered up to challenge pacesetting Life Mission turning for home and turned back that foe in upper stretch before striding clear as a much-the-best winner.

"His last race in the Breeder's Cup Juvenile Turf, he didn't care for the soft going at all at Churchill Downs, so we figured we'd give him a confidence builder here," winning trainer Mike Maker said. "The day after that race, he acted as if he hadn't run at all, so instead of giving him rest, we decided to give him some confidence and run him here."

"It doesn't get old, I=ll tell you that much. I love this race." Winning rider Tyler Gaffalione added, "What a professional race he put in today. All the credit goes to Mike and his team having him ready for this race. He broke alertly. I think it was the addition of blinkers that put him more forwardly placed.
